Got this news from overland.co.za:
We came back that way over the past weekend and were pleasantly
surprised by the road conditions. Most potholes seem to have been
filled. There are one or two dirt detours around sections, but also not
too bad.
I'm normally someone who takes it slow on the roads and easily
maintained a safe 70 - 80km/h average on this stretch.
