I'm back from a 4 night camping safari. One night Chobe, one night Savuti and 2 nights Moremi/Khwai. The roads are not bad, that drift from Kachikau sand, and after Ghoha turn to Savuti, the sand is loose, Savuti channel is dry, but water is coming, marsh road is good to be used, no water before Khwai village, it dry, the road from South Gate to Maun, you can drive at 100 km/h, loose soil from Mawana gate to Shorobe.
Here's the water crossing 5 K's north of Khwai Village:Most of the park is very dry, so animals are concentrated in the areas near water at Blackpool, Third bridge, Xakanaxa and Khwai area. The roads are fine, but there is thick sand driving just before first bridge and just before third bridge. From third bridge to fourth, road is fine with thick sand along the way. I think the best place to be for animal sighting, especially lions and leopards is between North gate(Khwai) and Hippo pool(12 kms). Here we saw a leopard with an impala kill and lions laying in the dry marsh just near hippo pools. From Hippo pools to Xakanaxa, we saw a group of 16 wild dogs, with only 5 adults and 11 puppies, which we believed, the adults we just babysitters and the rest of the pack went hunting.. We crossed the khwai river, and just did a game drive around the khwai area. We stayed at South gates and everything was super with hot water and clean ablutions.
