There are veterinary check points (road blocks) and you will often be checked for meat or fresh dairy products. This is important as Botswana is serious about protecting itself against Foot and Mouth Disease (found in Zimbabwe, etc). Do not bother to have lots of meat with you—there is a real chance of it being confiscated, especially when driving from the North to South and West to East! The other way around is usually less strict...
