source: 4x4community.co.zaHi, just back from Kubu at the weekend. Spent the night of 20th on the island. Road in from Nata side fine till about 1km from vet check point. Wet and muddy but low range and no problem. Bit wet and muddy on other side to left turn to the island - stayed on the track and was fine. Quite wet with pools on final stretch to island, but low range 2nd and 3rd, and stayed on tracks.
Next day we left for Letlakhane; and the fun began. We saw a cruiser come thru and they had made it but advised us that quite wet, but OK. So we followed their tracks, very slippery, and 1 very wet section; but managed and did not get stuck!!! Made friends with alot of gentle speed with low range!!
Lessons learnt; follow the track if at all possible; do not stray unless you can see that it is dry and sandy. Alot of the road has a stoney layer, and so even if there was a huge pool in front of us, we drove through as we knew that there would be stones under us - not mud!
Lots of rain while we were in Mak at Khumaga, and we could see alot of thunderstorms in and around Ntwetwe pan, and towards Nata
source: 4x4communityHey Guys
I spent a night on Kubu on 2 March, Came in from the south and the next day drove from Kubu to Gweta and there was NO water , not even one drop. Dusty all the way, could have done the trip with a Citi Colf.
We were there a week ago. We went to camp at Kubu island and then Khama before we headed home. Pans at Khubu showed evidence of recent rains but mostly dry....no problems.
source: 4x4communityJust returned from Kubu Island. Roads dry - no accesibilty problems. Road from Kubu to Gweta also good over the pans. When leaving Kubu for Gweta you need to go through the gate in the Game Fence and then turn left. If you turn left at the fence without going through the gate you will have to turn back. Allow plenty of time as the roads wind a lot and you want to enjoy the journey. Camp sites at Kubu clean. No water available - take your own. Firewood can be bought from the camp supervisor at Kubu. Toilets are clean and each camp site has its own pit latrine. There was no fuel available at Gweta, nearest fuel at Nata 100km east of Gweta. This may have been due to the long weekend?
