Track conditions to Kubu Island in 2010

Post by come-along.nl » Wed May 19, 2010 10:24 pm

May 2010
Lyzette Swart:

"They said the road from Nata to Kubu was fine
to travel then, could not confirm Kubu to Lethlakane - its Kubu to Gweta
that is a problem. I have two groups travelling from Gweta to Kubu in 3
weeks, if the road is too wet, their plan is to travel from Lethlakane to
Kubu as this usually drier/dryer (does T4A have spelling lessons?).
I spoke to various Bots lodges at the Indaba last week, and they have had no
rain for 2 weeks so the roads should be dry by now"

Jacob Knight (Gaborone):

"A friend travelled through Kubu last weekend - he said the road was
under water up to the axles in some places and it was touch and go but
they made it ok. Wouldn't recommend it with only one vehicle"

Customers of mine went to Kubu a week ago (August 4) and had an 'easy drive' coming from the south. They were happy with their GPS cause they coudnt find the access route going north from the village of Matshumo ;) They tell me that the track towards Kubu look to be farely pristine so not much traffic there.

Cheers, Hans

This week a customer of mine went to Kubu from the South (Matshumo) and had no problems getting there. The next day he went across the big Ntwetwe Pan (North West direction from Kubu) to Gweta and was OK there to.

UPDATE:

The tracks to Kubu are still 'Bone dry' but there are rainclouds building up over Palapye - They're hoping for a massive downpour!!! They need it!

Got news today from customers that visited Kubu island yesterday. They came in from the South (Matshumo) and had difficulties reaching the island. The first rains have made the Pans slippery... But they made it! getting then to the North and Gweta was not a problem.
