Landscape Photography in Kubu Island, 2012...

Post by kingshaka » Sat Aug 11, 2012 11:24 pm

Kubu Island is a peninsula into the Sua salt pan, belonging to the Makgadikgadi pans in the north-east of Botswana. Kubu is a setswana name for hippo, the stones of Kubu Island resemble hippos. There are various ways to reach Kubu Island with a 4*4 car, many of them are risky crossing the salt pans where you car can get seriously stuck and you have to use you hi-jack. Coming from Moremi via Maun in March 2012 we took the safe route from north. Kubu Island has a camping site run smoothly by a community trust of smart and ressourceful people. They provide marked places and restrooms and friendly advice. Beside that you have to take care of water, food, electricity and everything else.

Kubu Island has the reputation to be a mythical place. It is very quiet and definitively a special place. It is very inspiring for landscape photography. In 2012 we had only little time, since we headed to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve the next day. I hope to get one day back to Kubu Island and continue photography.
