Gorongosa Park Entry fees increase big time.

Post by kingshaka » Wed Apr 18, 2012 10:30 pm

Gorongosa National Park - official opening to the public for the 2012 season and a new beginning!

All new beginnings herald change and we list below some of the key points that we feel are really worth noting:

CHANGE IN PARK GATE FEES - from the 15th April 2012 International
Visitors $20 per day/guest

PARK GATE ENTRY FEES - As Gorongosa National Park (GNP) continues it's upward journey, the Park administration wish to bring gate entry fees in line with all national parks, both across Mozambique and the rest of Southern and Eastern Africa. We have concluded our own assessment of the change in fees and have found the fees set by the Park to meet the average across these regions. Therefore, GNP with today the 15th April being the official opening of the 2012 season, is implementing a new park entry fee policy which means a change from a U$20 per stay to a U$20 PER DAY rate for International visitors. You can see all the
details on the official Park web site on www.gorongosa.net/en/page/Rates_main/park-rates

Regarding the Park Fees there are two very important features that need to be highlighted:

- SADC residents pay half of the fee applied to the other international visitors, i.e., $10;

- There is no charge for private vehicles traveling directly to Chitengo to stay or for day visit. All vehicles planning to enter the safari network must purchase access pass before entry. Pass valid for multiple entries during the 24 hours period from issue.

Please note that all entry fees are charged on a daily basis and are used for the restoration and protection of the Parque’s fauna and flora. This creates employment opportunities, environmental education and improvements in the communities surrounding the Parque, which furthers these efforts.

Thank you for visiting and contributing to this historic effort to save one of the most spectacular ecosystems in Africa.

Hi 'Gorongosa',

Thanks for joining us! :)

Can visitors (Self Drive people) just show up at Chitengo and get the entry permits and a campsite on the spot? Payable in what currency? Please inform.

Cheers,
Hans

Usually there is no problem but it's always wise to book a camping spot in advance, just use the Tourism tab in www.gorongosa.net and fill the form there or send an e-mail to contact@gorongosa.net
