Visiting Lekhubu Island this rainy season?

This person lives in Letlhakane (85Km from Lekhubu) and their weather conditions could be of interest and help to you - especially their rainfall.

Update December 8:
I went to Kubu yesterday. As stated, when you leave the tar road, deflate tyres. There is some sandy sections and also deeply rutted section. You are spoilt for choice as to which road to take at any time, as there are sometimes up to 5 roads to choose from. You might be lucky in your choice for that specific section, but it is not guaranteed. On the way back I chose the Western tracks, and only had one oopsie where I was too fast for a hole. Driving at 40km/h would be my suggestion. That way you have enough time to slow down for the bad sections. All in all the road it not that bad. The worst is actually the corrugations that you can not miss. It is more of an irritation that an obstacle.

There was quite a storm on Saturday nigh, so there was sections with water in the tracks. Avoid at all cost as they are quite deep.

When you enter the pans, it opens up nicely. The rain has suppressed the dust to an extent, where there was rain. Some sections on the pan to the South was quite dusty, but around Kubu and towards it there was a thin layer of mud on the surface. Not slippery yet, but with the looks of the weather right now, there is more rain to come. That should change conditions on the pan.

In a nutshell, the road is good if you have a 4x4. Just stay on the tracks others have made.

Kubu were unreachable from lethakane. We'll be trying to reach on the 2 Jan from Nata side. Nxai pans were very wet but most roads were drivable. Great lions sighting of the pride of 17. Baines also very wet but campsite 2 and 3 reachable, the bottom road is drivable and recommend. The pans are beautiful. Just drive on the side of the pans.
