Savuti & Moremi track conditions (till end of Oct. - 2012)

Post by come-along.nl » Sun Jul 08, 2012 4:45 pm

I've been told that the bridge at Third Bridge is out of order (damaged?). The question is now: is 3rd Bridge approachable from both sides? From Xakanaxa and South Gate? Have asked Xomae to confirm and inform us.

Stay tuned!

Third Bridge (Moremi GR) only accessable from South Gate...

Post by kingshaka » Sun Jul 08, 2012 6:41 pm

Kurt McKenzie (Maun Selfdrive): "Apparently it is broken, went for a day trip yesterday. You can get to 3rd bridge from South Gate, but from Xakanaxa to 3rd bridge you have to detour BACK via South Gate, or if you are brave you can go via Bodamatau route, a few people are doing this route, although there are several water crossings!!"

Thanks for your information Kurt!

Update on Third Bridge's (Moremi GR) accessability...

Post by come-along.nl » Tue Jul 10, 2012 8:36 am

Dear Hans

Good day, i hope you are well.

Third Bridge is broken since the river is flooding and with the strong water current it washes away the logs. We have however assisted the DWNP to help them transport the logs to third bridge for quick maintenance. The bridge crew is busy working on it now and hopefully they will be done before the end of the week. You can access third bridge camp via first and second bridge only and cannot cross the third bridge to Xakanaka, and to get to Xakanaka you have to drive back to South gate over first and second bridge and start from South gate to Xakanaka. Please bare with us on this situation and hopefully all will be okay.

Thank you for you continued support.

Update Moremi track conditions (July 16)...

Post by come-along.nl » Mon Jul 23, 2012 4:09 pm

The current situation at Savuti and in Moremi is fine. The watercrossing are relativily easy to negotiate (check pics). Tracks are very dry and sandy at places. 4WD essential and diff-lock needed at places.

Can anyone who’s been there very recently tell how is the track conditions from Savute to Kwai (North gate camping) along the Kwai river? I'll be there around mid October.

I did this road some years ago and it was one of the best parts of our self-drive.

Thanks,

Hi Juha,

We've had multiple customers doing those same tracks recently and all encountered no major issues with watercrossings. There is a short detour when going from Xakanaxa to North Gate and the same watercrossing applies just north of Khwai Village when going on the transit road from North Gate to Mababe Gate and onto Savuti.

Hans
