Please be aware that unfortunately we will be unable to open Kubatana Camp in Gorongosa for the 2014 season. The reason for this is that whilst many tourists, scientists and other visitors have happily visited Gorongosa National Park this year there is still an ongoing element of uncertainty regarding the political stability of the wider Gorongosa region. This element of instability makes it hard for us to commit to a fixed opening date for the camp. After lengthy discussions, Asilia and the Gorongosa National Park authorities have therefore agreed that the best way to move forward is to re-engage in conversations about Asilia’s entry into the park as soon as there is a meaningful peaceful settlement between the political parties.

In the meantime, Asilia remains committed to Gorongosa National Park and still hopes to one day be a force of positive change in the National Park. We will of course update you if and when the situation changes.

Meanwhile, if you are still interested in travelling to Gorongosa the Girassol Hotel remains open for bookings and Vasco is available to answer any queries you may have about visiting the park: vasco@gorongosa.net

Lots of questions right now regarding the political unrest in Mozambique. People want to know if it is still safe to go there on holiday next month and which part of the country they must avoid. Is it only the northern part of the country or is the unrest more widespread? Are there any of you who have been there recently and what will be your advice?

"Continuing positive talks between Frelimo and Renamo provide further hope that the conflict can soon be over. The important request by Renamo that the electoral registration (that begin earlier this week) be extended by two weeks was instantly accepted demonstrating that the government is serious about encouraging Renamo to participate in October's Presidential elections"...
