Protea Hotels has withdrawn a proposal to develop a hotel adjacent the
the Mana Pools site on the Zambian side of the border it announced
yesterday.
“Having engaged in a comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessment
(EIA) and taken cognisance of the concerns raised we have decided not
to progress, taking the view that further clarity on the matter is
needed,” said the hotel group in a media statement.
This comes after outrage from public and industry figures was
expressed after the announcement of plans for the hotel recently.
Protea Hotels currently has five properties in Zambia and is committed
to further investment. “We will continue to have productive and
meaningful dialogue with the Zambian authorities on further
development in the country,” it added.
